Huge Public Inquiry into Mega-Mosque Appeal Starts Tuesday 3rd June

The long-anticipated appeal by Tablighi Jamaat mega-mosque trustees against Newham Council’s welcome and unanimous rejection of their plans for a 9,000 capacity mosque starts on Tuesday 3rd June at The Excel London Conference Centre in Docklands.

The appeal Public Inquiry is scheduled to run for three weeks and is convened by the government’s Planning Inspector. However the final decision about the appeal has, very unusually, been called in or ‘recovered’ by the Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles. The Planning Inspector therefore will draw up his recommendations based on the Public Inquiry hearings, and send them on to the Minister for a final decision.

Eric Pickles is expected to take the decision sometime during autumn 2014.

Your MegaMosqueNoThanks campaign has been given formal ‘Rule 6 Status’ and therefore will participate fully in the Public Inquiry. Through our legal team we will continue to make strong representation against the plans for this unnecessary and divisive huge mosque on the site at West Ham; the land would be better used for a mixed-use development that is available for the whole community.
